Luke, one of the more than 600 individuals the Black Hills Works support sat down with us to tell us a little more about how Direct Support Professionals make an impact on his life.

Supporting Independence: Meet Luke

When asked what sort of things Black Hills Works staff help him Luke gets to the point and tells us: “They help me with my cooking and taking me places I need to go. Sometimes we go to events together too and go shopping. People who work at Black Hills Works are there for me if I get sick, or I need help with something, people at Black Hills Works are always there for you.”

When asked why someone should come work at Black Hills Works as a Direct Support Professional, he says: “Come work at Black Hills Works, you’ll really enjoy it.”

Empowering Choice and Independence

Through the support he receives, Luke is able to pursue his goals, build skills, and participate more fully in his community. Services are designed not to do things for individuals, but to empower them to do things on their own, like pursue meaningful employment.

Luke also said , “ Black Hills Works helped him to find employment at a place he really enjoys working, QDoba. Luke expressed that his favorite part of working at QDoba is helping their customers.”
