A New Year. A New Career. A Meaningful Impact.

As the new year approaches, many people begin reflecting on what’s next, especially when it comes to their careers. If the traditional 8-to-5 office grind no longer feels fulfilling, it may be time to consider a different path, one where your work truly makes a difference.

At Black Hills Works, a career as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) offers more than just a job. It offers purpose, flexibility, and the opportunity to positively impact lives while working a three-shift schedule.

No Experience? No Problem.

You don’t need prior experience to get started. If you’re passionate about helping others and looking for meaningful work, Black Hills Works provides a comprehensive paid training program designed to set you up for success from day one.

What the Journey Looks Like

Step One: The Interview
After applying, selected candidates will participate in an interview that includes visiting a participant’s home or community setting. This gives you a first-hand look at the people you would be supporting and helps ensure the role is a good fit for everyone involved.

Step Two: Classroom Training
Once hired, you’ll begin a two-week classroom-style training program. This includes a mix of instructor-led sessions, online coursework, and on-site observations to build a strong foundation in direct support work.

Step Three: Onboarding & Hands-On Learning
Next comes an extended onboarding period that lasts several weeks. During this time, you’ll shadow experienced team members, observe real-life demonstrations, and begin building meaningful relationships with the participants you support. This includes assisting with daily activities such as running errands, getting to and from work, participating in leisure activities, and supporting independence at home and in the community.

You’ll also complete essential certifications, including CPR, First Aid, Safety Care, and Medication Administration—all while receiving guidance and support every step of the way.

Built for Long-Term Success

From start to finish, the training and onboarding process takes approximately two to three months, ensuring you’re confident, prepared, and connected before stepping fully into your role. This thoughtful approach helps create a strong foundation for a lasting and rewarding career at Black Hills Works.

If you’re ready to take the leap into a career that offers purpose, flexibility, and the chance to make a real difference, your future may begin here.
